Weight Loss Through Yoga
Carefully designed weight loss program to suit the individual based on his/ her stage and other issues in the body. This is a combination of one on one sessions with a mentor and group sessions planned for a period of 3 months. The mentoring sessions help to achieve a goal and help to monitor closely the progress of the participant.
Can You Lose Weight Doing Yoga?
Practicing yoga not only helps you develop muscle tone but also improves your metabolism. Yoga is effective in helping overweight persons to lose weight, including abdominal fat. If you’re a beginner, start slowly and gradually build up your strength through practice. This allows you to build up your flexibility and prevent injuries.
How much weight can you lose by doing yoga?
This actually depends on a lot of factors, including sleep and lifestyle habits. Although many yoga practices burn fewer calories than traditional exercises (like running, swimming, brisk walking); however, practising yoga can increase one’s mindfulness and way they treat their body. So, those practising yoga will become more aware of what they are eating and thus make better food choices. Think about combining your yoga practice with a whole foods diet for optimal results.
How does yoga help to lose weight?
Yoga works on strengthening and toning your muscles and adjusting your weight to the ideal weight for your age and frame. To achieve your goals on weight loss, your practice should be steadfast, uninterrupted, and focused on the goal.
Does yoga influence my eating habits?
Yes. Our body is nourished through prana, the vital force which can be acquired through all the 5 elements in the universe. Mostly we seek, the source of food and beverages for our energy. But Prana can be acquired through other sources as well, such as sunlight, air, and space. A regular pranayama practice nourishes the body with a good amount of prana, the vital force. Therefore, one is less inclined towards food.
Do I have to follow any particular diet?
The food has to be sattvic (foods that are fresh, juicy, light and nourishing) in nature and acceptable to your body, consuming the right food and the right quantity.
I am overweight; are there any precautions I should note when practicing Yoga?
Being overweight doesn’t hinder your practice of Yoga. Every yogic practice should be done as per one’s capacity. Never push your body beyond your comfort level. At the same time, be consistent with the practice to achieve progression.
Do I have to be flexible to practice yoga?
Achieving flexibility is one of the effects of yogic practices, it is not a prerequisite.
Are there specific yoga poses that will help me lose weight?
For losing weight, one has to do dynamic repetition of asanas with properly coordinated breath. Performing several rounds of Surya namaskars or Vinyasa flow also helps in bringing your weight under control and achieving body toning.
